The outright market moved four times in 36 hours. France overtook Spain at the top of some boards after Mbappé’s brace v Senegal; Argentina shortened from decimal 11.00 to 9.00 after Messi’s hat-trick v Algeria; England came in from 8.00 to 7.00 after their 4–2 over Croatia; and the United States shortened to 34.00 — the lowest the public market has had them since December 2025. Here’s the inside read on where the value still sits, where I think the line has moved past the actual chance, and the dark horse the FOX Sports board has tucked into a 31.00 corner that the NZ-facing books haven’t fully digested.

- France 4.70 (FOX Sports/FanDuel; OddsPedia 4.50) — now market favourite ahead of Spain.
- Spain 6.50 (OddsPedia 7.00) — drifted slightly after Saudi 4–0 result was already priced in.
- England 7.00 — shortened from a pre-tournament 8.00 after the 4–2 over Croatia.
- Argentina 9.00 — shortened from 11.00 after Messi hat-trick.
- Portugal 11.00, Brazil 13.00, Germany 13.00, Netherlands 16.00, Norway 31.00, United States 34.00.
- All prices NZ$ decimal, FOX Sports/FanDuel-published, as of 21 Jun 2026.
What Actually Moved, and Why
France (4.70). Mbappé’s brace v Senegal made him France’s all-time top scorer (58 internationals). The model adjustment that justified the shortening to favourite is, in my view, slightly overdone — France’s underlying defensive numbers haven’t shifted, Saliba is back from his earlier doubt and Gusto is doubtful for tonight’s Iraq fixture. The market is paying for the Mbappé personal-milestone narrative, not the team-level improvement.
Spain (6.50). The Saudi 4–0 was the result the model already had baked in; nothing about Group H’s underlying defensive picture has shifted, and the Uruguay/Cape Verde 2–2 leaves Spain’s path to top the group slightly less clean than the bookmakers’ top line implies. Inside: I think 6.50 is the fairest price on the entire short-priced board.
England (7.00). The 4–2 over Croatia was a result; it was not a clean performance. England conceded twice, Saka is doubtful (Achilles), Rice has hamstring tightness and Rashford trained without conviction. The market shortening reflects the result. The underlying squad picture justifies a price closer to 8.00 than 7.00 — meaning England is now over-bet.
Argentina (9.00). The Messi hat-trick shortened the line; the underlying defensive picture has not changed. Argentina remain on an 8-match winning streak, but the squad model has them at fair value 10.50–11.50, meaning at 9.00 they are now slightly short. The record-watch tonight against Austria — see the Klose-Messi piece — is more a Messi-anytime market than an outright-shifter.
Where the Value Still Hides
THE DARK HORSE
Norway at 31.00 is the price the NZ-facing books still haven’t digested. Norway have won 11 competitive matches in a row. Haaland has scored in 11 straight. They sit on 3 points after a 4–1 in their opener; tonight’s Senegal fixture (see 22 June picks) is the one that consolidates them. A model that has Norway top of Group I, into the Round of 32 against a manageable opponent and through to a quarter-final with a non-zero chance against any of the top tier is a model that prices them closer to 22.00 — not 31.00. The market is paying for the Norway-have-never-been-here-before narrative. That narrative is exactly the kind of thing the model isn’t built to price, but the punter who waits will see this line move from 31.00 toward 20.00 inside a fortnight.
Portugal at 11.00 is the other under-priced top-tier ticket. Cristiano Ronaldo is fit; Bruno Fernandes has 29 international goals. They drew the opener with DR Congo 1–1, which is the bit the market overweighted. They’ll come right.
What I’d Avoid
The United States at 34.00. I get why the line shortened — Kalshi has them at 5.5% implied (decimal 18.18) after the 2–0 win over Australia, the public is enjoying it, and FOX is a US book. The actual model has them at around 21.00–25.00, meaning 34.00 is, generously, the median fair value. The shortening from December is the part of the move that’s narrative-driven; I’d not stake the US outright at the current price.
Brazil at 13.00. Raphinha is OUT of Wednesday’s Scotland fixture with a thigh/muscle injury, Rodrygo and Éder Militão are out for the tournament, and Casemiro carries a suspension risk. The market is still pricing Brazil at what would have been their pre-injury fair value; the actual squad picture says nothing shorter than 15.00.
How I’d Stake an Outright Position Today
A two-leg structural play: 1 unit on Norway at 31.00 (the dark horse the public hasn’t repriced) and 1 unit on Spain at 6.50 (the fairest price on the top-tier short board). If Norway run the bracket, the 1-unit pays a 30-unit return; if Spain lift the trophy, the 1-unit pays 5.5 units. The combined position carries the structural shape of a portfolio rather than a coin-flip bet.
My Verdict
The outright market is now genuinely three-tiered: France/Spain/England/Argentina at 4.70-9.00; Portugal/Brazil/Germany/Netherlands at 11.00-16.00; everyone else above 31.00. The interesting prices are at the edges — Spain because it’s correctly priced and the rest of the top tier isn’t, and Norway because the model says 22.00 and the board still says 31.00. Stay away from England at 7.00 (over-bet) and the United States at 34.00 (narrative-bet). And when France play Iraq later tonight NZST and Mbappé hits his 100th cap, do not stake an outright at the new shorter price — the market will move past 4.50 inside the hour, and that’s not value, it’s chasing a milestone you can already see coming.
For tonight’s Klose-Messi record watch, Argentina v Austria is broken down here. For the full 22 June picks card, it’s here. For where this fits in the wider campaign, the outright odds breakdown pillar sits behind this whole analysis.
